Small Heading
Thanks to two great friends, Ian Cockburn and Thuy Ngoc, and the wonders they work as chefs, Sticking Up For Children had planned to offer 'A 12-Course Meal from the Tropics', celebrating our Supporters and celebrating the birthdays of two exemplary musicians, Cyril Neville and Roger Lewis, tonight, Saturday, October 7, in New Orleans.
Then came Nate. Hurricane Nate is to make landfall along the Gulf Coast tonight, bringing
80+ miles-per-hour winds and heavy rain. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu has declared a Curfew to start at 6:00 p.m.--everyone off New Orleans streets. Therefore our
sit-down Meal and Birthday Celebration must be cancelled.
However, we have plates full of delicious food from the Tropics to offer! 60 Boxes worth,
to be exact, a few of which will be gratefully and complimentarily passed along to musicians and other volunteers who have helped at our Music & Arts Days over four years, and most of which will be available to the public as a one-time-only (we hope) Unforgettable Curfew Dinner.
Ian Cockburn, always a great friend to SUFC, with
Maryse at our Festiva #1 in October 2013
You can see the food below. Um-u'hm, GOOD!
The chefs have shopped and cooked for dozens of hours to create a spread of such savory variety that you'll have to see it (the Menu is below) to believe it! Vietnamese Shrimp Spring Rolls, Cajun Short Ribs, Trinidad Crab Gumbo, Amazon Cassava in Aged Asiago, ... Ecuadorian Chocolate Cake! One Box from the 12 Courses! Some can be made vegetarian, is that's your choice. The price is $40 per Box.
You can PRE-ORDER A BOX through
For $60 you can add either a bottle of wine from Second Vine Wine or a six-pack of
beer from Bayou Teche Brewing. Both Second Vine and Bayou Teche have been marvelous Supporters of SUFC and our Festiva.
Please know, too, that your contributions will go toward funding SUFC's Autumn schedule of 10 3D-Printing Workshops at the Ecole Foyer Espoir (EFE) school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, October 14 to December 16,  and our two Music & Arts Days in New Orleans. You can see photos of our 3D-Printing Team in Haiti, from Maryse's and my visit last week, on the poster below.
Your contribution will also help to fund annual needs of the 33 orphans at our youth-education partner Foyer Espoir Pour les Enfants (FEPE) in Port-au-Prince.
The Dinner tonight was also to celebrate Collins Phillips of New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward for his $500 Parainnage (sponsorship) of a FEPE orphan. Collins and the entire Phillips family (wife Sheila, son Aristide, grandchildren Jabari, Jyra, Wendell, and Joyia) have been
superlative Supporters of Sticking Up For Children since 2013, giving us their artistry and presence again and again. Please read about Parainnage elsewhere on this website.
So, yes, Sticking Up For Children is making lemonade out of a Hurricane.
We hope you can share it with us. Boxes will be available for pick-up after 2:00 p.m. today, October 7, at 3919 Iberville, nearby Canal and Carrolton streets, in New Orleans. Email with any questions. Cheers and light and love!
