DPRAM according to Snug Harbor
Don Paul & Rivers Answer Moons is a visionary New Orleans ensemble led by poet, author, and composer Don Paul. Blending spoken-word poetry with the deep grooves of jazz, funk, and roots music, the group brings together some of the Crescent City’s most accomplished musicians—including saxophone legend Roger Lewis and “one-in-a-million player” (Elvis Costello) Kirk Joseph of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, master drummer Herman LeBeaux of Allen Tousaint’s band and orchestra, Banjo Hall of Fame member Don Vappie, and composer and percussionist Alexey Marti.
Their 2-CD album LOUISIANA STORIES has been #1 among Crossover Jazz albums and #2 among all Jazz albums in North America over the past four Weeks, according to Plays on 225 Radio-Stations compiled by Roots Music Reports for the RMR Charts. It’s also been #1 among Jazz albums in Louisiana for 24 Weeks and among the top 10 most-played in this State for the past four Weeks.
Thierry De Clemensat wrote in Paris Move about LOUISIANA STORIES: ‘The Rivers Answer Moons band is an ensemble of stars and Don Paul’s voice delivers his distilled poetry like fine rum. There’s simply nothing to criticize here. This is an artistic masterpiece, deserving of a place among those albums—or in this case, double albums—we deem essential.’
DPRAM (Don Paul and Rivers Answer Moons) will perform from LOUISIANA STORIES on July 24. The group delivers a powerful, immersive experience that fuses the energy of live jazz with the rhythm and resonance of spoken word. Their performances are both intimate and expansive—shaped by the city’s sonic traditions and elevated by Don Paul’s poetic voice. ‘A man of multitudes and vision,’ Offbeat wrote in 2022—and Rivers Answer Moons is indeed a band of stars, as capable of leading listeners onto the dance-floor into universes mysterious and nurturing as many Bayous and Second-Lines.
‘Funky beyond funky’, Don Vappie wrote about their Song-of-the-Day selection by the All About Jazz website, their special celebration of New Orleans’ characters and spirit, ‘The DREAMERS and the BELIEVERS’.
