WORKING THE HEAT

CELEBRATING PARTNERS IN HAITI
AND NEW ORLEANS

July 13, 2025

Hello, Friends,

Today we bring Mid-Summer news from Port-au-Prince and Cayes Jacmel in Haiti and from New Orleans in the USA. Our most urgent news concerns the great Haitian metal-artist Jacques Eugene. Jacques Eugene starred in the 'Making Metal
Magic' Show that Angela King's EVOLVE Space presented in New Orleans in 2019. He generously benefited the FEPE orphanage, founded by his friend Marie-Jo Poux, with proceeds from his six Sales then. Now, this tough year 2025 in Port-au-Prince, Jacques is offering his monumental 'Messenger' sculpture for a quick, Buy-It-Now Sale to assist his son's upcoming Wedding.

Please see more about Jacques and his 'Messenger' at tail of this Update. It's a great, great piece that would UPLIFT any Lobby or home.

FEPE and EFE
Please see below 26 Graduates, ages 4 to 24, of the past 15 years in histories of the Foyer Espoir Pour les Enfants (FEPE) orphanage and the Ecole Foyer Espoir (EFE) school in the Delmas (northwest, nearby the closed Toussaint L’Ouverture International Airport).

Bright eyes! Smiling aspirations! Accomplishments that border on the incredible during the past few years of Barricades, Shortages and Violence in Port-au-Prince.

The photos are by Olivier Jean-Baptiste. Olivier himself has grown from age 8 in FEPE and EFE to his current great capacities and contributions! The four individual Rows of Olivier's photos can be seen in the closing Section below.

LADIES of Cayes Jacmel and Their
Lèkol Toupatou and Pwop’té Toupatou

The adult students who have since June of 2024 learned to read and write through tutelage from Marie Yolene Désiral in the village of Cayes Jacmel on Haiti's southern coast (about 20 miles East of the cultural and historical center Jacmel (the first municpality in the Caribbean to have electrical lighting      --1925) have now empowered four more women entrepreneurs and continued their batches of bottled cleaning-liquids. They celebrated with a Party and awarded Baskets of Gifts!

Their next steps will further amaze you!

DPRAM is performing in New Orleans' fine venue, Snug Harbor, on Thursday, July 24. Two Sets, starting at 7:30 and 9:30. We look forward to playing so close to an audience!

We repeat our most urgent NEWS at the last here. JACQUES EUGENE, the magnificent metal-artist who was featured in the 2019 Show in Angela King's EVOLVE Space in New Orleans' French Quarter, 'MAKING METAL MAGIC', is in dire need of of funds. Jacques is stranded in Haiti. The past four years of turmoil in Port-au-Prince have taxed his resources. He now wants to assist with the Wedding of his son, his one remaining son. Jacques was in 2019 and in all years very generous in sharing the amount of his Sales (he sold three Pieces in 2019) to benefit his friend MARIE-JO POUX and students in the FEPE orphanage.

Please have a look at Jacques Eugene's monumental sculpture of found objects, the 'Messenger'. See it, please, as something powerfully unique, representing Haitian creativity and resourcefulness within its five feet of length and five feet of height and its telling details. Bells and a Cell-Phone!

We think that the 'Messenger' would be great in a Lobby or Home. Sale of it would certainly and immediately benefit Jacques and FEPE. Please CLICK on image to see more!
